  1. I vote for a VN o/
It would be nice if it worked on learning more about the characters overall, like i said before, i like their personalities and want to know more then. It could have lots of situations and all related to the path the player takes on. But would i play as a Nanako Student? Maiko? another charater? Anyway, it all looks fun just from thinking, heh. I am on 🙂

    1. Yeah I had the idea you play as yourself as someone new, just a non important person. That way the player can interact with all the characters.

  2. Looks great, though Cain looks a little lumpy. Though, judging from the way it’s shaded I’m guessing that isn’t the final product. And I need to ask you, do you HAVE to include clothes that defy the laws of physics? Whatever scrap of cloth Lynn and Riley are wearing that you intended to have as a shirt would immediately slip down onto their stomachs since it’s obvious that it’s resting below their nipples. The cafe uniforms at least had some support on top of the girl’s nipples, but I don’t see that kind of support here. I know it’d show less skin, but at least it would be practical as clothing.

Pervy Savori’s dad being pervy. But he doesn’t work for GemCo, does he?

    1. Yes Cain needs the shadows recolored.
The black cloth under the jacket is not a shirt.
Yeah Savori Dad is a GemCo exec.

      1. It’s not a shirt? Oh. Then what is it? It can’t be a bra. ARIA gear isn’t made out of cloth is it? At least in the bits where it’s on the armor they’re more tight-fitting than the cloth they’re wearing. But if it were gear of some sort, wouldn’t Luma have it too?

So the bookstore thing is just a hobby? Or is that an assignment of some sort? I know he gets replaced when he’s ratted out, but what does GemCo get out of running a bookstore? Wait. Controlling the flow of information seems like a good reason.

        I ask too many questions~!

        1. the running joke is that it is a type of boob apron
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KsF6khzsUU

it’s not gear so Luma doesn’t have it. nor Yui. The modest characters have it.

Being able to making things realistic or not, is all part of the fun of making something fictional.

The boobkstore is his assigned station. Just as Natan is the Math teacher, and Jeo is a student.

          1. Well that doesn’t make any sense. Why wear a revealing shirt if you’re not going to let it be revealing? And why wear this “boob apron” if it doesn’t even cover it up? Some women. I have a shirt where a “boob apron” is sewed in. It’s actually kind of old though, so I was wearing it when I wasn’t legal yet.

So Jeo was ASSIGNED to be a student? For what purpose? They already have Cain there watching over Lynn. And it’s not as if Jeo interacts with the other students.

          2. Imagining how the black part might look under the jacket is part of the way I wanted it to be like that. I guess ultimately yes, Clothing will not always make sense but that is part of the fun of it. And yes I have to have it that way. also it is just the revealed part. it could be anything under the jacket. as mentioned boob apron is a joke.

GemCo has other interests at Nanako other than guarding Lynn. I don’t want to post here because I like to explain stuff in the games. but it should be explained at some point.

also some of that is touched on in the Academy lore page.

even in the first part of ARIA intro Arielle mentions to Jeo if he had fun pretending to be a student.

  3. Based on our conversations over the last few months, it’s apparent that all your characters have their own motivations and back stories that aren’t touched upon in your current games. A visual novel would be a fun way to let the players in without having to make a full game that could take years to develop.

As for either ARIA or UMCH, UMCH has a much larger cast of characters than ARIA so maybe ARIA would be a better choice for a first attempt? That being said, a lot of the VN I’ve played have had a high school setting so UMCH would fit in very well with the established genre and would probably entice more people who are already into this type of stuff.

The best dating sims I’ve played were made by Chaotic. His more recent games are pretty big in scope but the older ones are similar to a visual novel. His site can be found here:

Probably the most popular adult game of recent years was made by ArianeB. Near as I can tell, her first game was in 2003 which makes it older than basically any other game on the web, outside of text only games. She describes her games as a visual novel style but I personally think that’s a loose definition. Date Ariane is the most ambitious dating sim I’ve ever played. Something’s In the Air is more of a classic Visual Novel but with a large cast of characters like UMCH. Both of these games were recently overhauled to work with android and iOS devices.

    1. yeah I was thinking this would be a good way to show characters interacting a few related events that take place to explain the story quickly

  4. Looks good I can see why VN is limited as a visual novel. Compare to other tools. But it does have a easier tool to port it to mobile. There is also this tool.

    http://www.renpy.org/

The tool is power by python the same python that is use in Blender 3D. One fame artist that use this tool is Akabur. http://akabur.newgrounds.com/

His work he uses renpy tool his fame is a game call witch trainer. The tool also looks that it canm be use as a RPG level up style. And it can run on mobile too.

    1. renpy is a good tool but I’m not really interested in learning more coding languages.
tyrano has few things to lean but the most I’ve written in a single block was about 4 lines of code and they were really basic. worst case scenario I can use html or javascript.

  5. Sure. 🙂

I’ve used Ren’Py myself and it is very good. Haven’t used TyranoBuilder but I’ve heard interesting things.
    Fungus is another one.
    And Twine is pretty (in)famous…

Given your coding background, Ren’Py might be more the way to go?

    1. I was purposefully looking for something simple. If tyrano can’t do it it is probably too complex from my original idea.

  6. Visual Novels have sucked in the past and continue to do so to this day. They’re the lazy man’s quick cash grab games, like a mobile product bleh!

    1. Most VNs suck, sure. Probably because there are so many people on the internet who make bad ones. Using that logic, you could say novels suck too, because so many people try to write them and make bad ones.
But I have read/played some excellent VNs, and the likes of Fate/Stay Night (which I haven’t got around to playing) must have such a huge fanbase for a reason. :/

    2. you guys are talking recent. even the past you refer to is recent.
lots of VN games were made before steam and mobile even existed
this VN would be a compliment to existing game thoguh. background lore.

  7. From my experience in helping my friend make VNs, it’s actually a lot harder and more time consuming than one would think, music and just drawing all the different still images, making path decisions and if you want to have variable routes then sometimes paths and stuff can get messed up with one simple error in programming.

Back on topic though, I would absolutely LOVE a VN based on these series, I feel like the story and characters would make for a great H-VN, especially if it can be well written and executed unlike so many of the crappy ones out there, but that’s just my two cents.

    1. Thanks I started working on it. Yes I think even with a software tool to easily make it. It still requires logic, planning, and needs to be interesting to read and visually appealing.

  8. A VN for UMCH wouldn’t be bad at all I love to play VNs, but I’ll skip on a Aria VN. It just seems more fun the way it is now.

    1. the exact same argument can be made to not want a UMCC/UMCH VN heh.
The point of it is just ot add some background or additional lore, ideally enhancing the experience playing those respective games.

I’ll plan to make various smaller VN games eventually covering different stuff both ARIA, Umichan, and other stuff like Semitix and Daughter of Eve. Just to help explain the mythos.

  9. honestly a VN about UMCH whould be better because it allows for the overall better understanding of character development and background since the next installment is underway. gotta flush out them characters yo

    1. the story is a bit deeper than just explaining personalities. To explain UMCH background is to explain ARIA background.
