got a few videos here that are result of me working with the nchl shader for mmd. trying to get better at tinkering with shaders. And the other two are Kinect motions that have been only slightly modified.
The kinect motions are basically me and my cousin playing Dance Central 3 last weekend. lol. I noticed the kinect motions tracking, at least for mmd, is pretty terrible for try any fast dance motions. also it has a hard time tracking body limbs, such as arms, in the are in front of your chest. for examples if you cross your arms it won’t track it well and instead flail the arms around all silly. And of course it has a hard time tracking you arms if they are behind you but that is more understandable. So instead of doing the dance motion just they were in game i had to for the most part keep my arms to the side. with resulted in looking like some bird flapping it wings imo lol. But i’m going to try to make something out of them, i think my cousin and I did around 30 songs that are varied in quality and the amount of editing required. Still probably better than starting from scratch though.

The the first Kinect was not the best at tracking very fast movement. Also soon Microsoft will release a special plug to connect a Kinect 2.0 of the Xbox one into a PC. That KInect 2.0 is far better than the first one.
Microsoft solve the problem with motion tracking in a very fast movement of the body… so they say? This is a tech demo of the Kinect 2.0.

I think mmd uses the kinect differently though. it doesn’t behave the save way even compared to some of the xobx360 games. I think my little kinect sports avatar even move better. I’ll have to check later if anyone makes something for mmd that uses the newer kinect 2
Ah, I see in the second video that Maiko has learned the mating ritual dance of the chicken people who reside deep in Dove Forest next to Crane Lake, just below Eagle Mountain.

Those shaders really do add a special kind of smooth fluidity to the MMDs, I think continuing to tinker with them could make your MMDs just that much better!
Also, I like those kinect motion tracks, however goofy they may be. I’m not sure what you intend to do with them but I expect it to be great XD
Thanks there are some things I can try to make the motions fairly decent but we’ll see. Should have some new videos on the next post.

The camera just has some interesting angles. I might make a few more videos of raw motion capture.
But now I can understand why you don’t see many kinect mmd motions.
