I’ve been playing the different iterations of ARIA for awhile now off an on, and I always felt the character art and animation was very well done. So much so that I would rank it up there with Zone-Tan in terms of style, creativity and imagination.

It’s kind of weird sometimes when you think about having a “Favorite Character” in something like this, because of its’ nature. I’m particularly attached to “Tiffany” and “Remi” though, specially because of the way they are designed.

However I digress, I just stumbled upon the Custom ARIA “Maker” late last week looking through the files. Ever since then I have been playing around with it almost non-stop the last few days since its’ discovery.

Through trial and error I managed to create my own scenes, link them, and even throw a battle in or two. The possibilities of what you have given fans here is really limitless. We can create, imagine and design basically our own visual novels based on characters from your universes’. To me, this is a “game” in and of itself, and probably my favorite of all the ones I have tried so far that you have published, and I mean that in the best way possible with absolutely no disrespect at all to you. I simply enjoy crafting my own experiences using the characters, art, storyboards, and tools you have provided.

That is why I am very much looking forward to the ARIA “Trainer” game, if and when that ever comes out. It may not be the same “concept” of creating your own experience, but you can still “micro manage” your own experience, which to me is just as good.

Below I will provide some feedback, based upon my 30 hours or so I have spent with the Custom ARIA “Maker”:

Art Work (Stills):

The stills provided for character scenes are most of the same ones used in the actual game itself. I did however notice that some were missing between the game(s) and the Custom ARIA “Maker”. Im hoping they will be made available for us in the future:

  • “Remi” Bathrobe Pose
  • “Amp” C-Shot / “Used” Pose
  • All Girls “After Sex” Poses (Once the animation finishes. These could be used for several different reasons story wise.)
  • All Girls “Sleep” Pose
  • All Girls “Punish” Pose Initial
  • All Girls “Punish” Pose Secondary (Before Sex)
  • All Girls “Relaxed” Pose (Seen during “Free” other than ‘Sleep’, or ‘Punish’.)

Art Work (Animations):

I feel as though the objective of the Custom ARIA “Maker” is for us to create our own experiences, which it has a lot of great tools to do so, but at the expense of sacrificing alot of the great animations that are already in the game. I guess the angles of the scenes we can use is to provide an “It could be anyone” experience rather than an experience directly linked to characters themselves with facial recognition. Im hoping that more animations will be available for us in the future, however these are the ones I see that are currently missing in some form or another:

  • All Girls BJ Sex [O]
  • All Girls Yuri Sex [O]
  • All Girls Bounded Sex (Punish) [V]
  • All Girls Other Than “Amp” Hands-and-Knees Sex [V]
  • All “Goo” Scenes

These are just the ones that I know of, there may have been some that I forgot about or haven’t discovered yet. As you can see however, there is A LOT of content there to work with, in some way. Whether it be zooming in on portions of the girls, or giving us access to the full scenes themselves. I would really like to see “Remi”, “Tiffany” and “Amp” have more exposure in the Custom ARIA “Maker”, though that may be me being a little bit bias as those are the ‘stars’ of my particular screen play.

Some other things that I noticed while playing around with Custom ARIA “Maker” in terms of animations:

  • It isn’t the greatest doing transitions between normal text / stills and sex animations right now. As of right now, atleast as far as I have discovered, you go transitionless from the two. What I would suggest is being able to add a Fade-to-Black and Fade-In-From-Black for scenes to have better transitioning between normal play and sex animations.
  • As far as I have seen, there’s no way to have toggles available for “Normal”, “Faster”, and “Cum” on command. You simply have to wait till the animation stops.
  • There is no way, to my knowledge so far, that you can change “position” animations in the same scene. You have to cut scenes and link them together to change “positions”. Once you select an animation it is locked for that entire scene. If you change it, they all change.

Below are some of my “personal” requests in terms of animations. I know this is going out on a limb and requires a lot of work and attention, but hopefully someday, you can oblige and make it happen either atleast in the game itself or the Custom ARIA “Maker”:

  • “DP” With Any Girl [A/V]
  • “HJ” With Any Girl [O]
  • “Tease” With Any Girl [A/V]
  • “Pull Out” Finish [A/V]
  • “Facial” Finish [Similar to Phia’s Boobjob]

General Feedback:

There are quite a few bugs I ran into, but I absolutely understand that this is a work in progress. Below ill list some notable bugs I ran across:

  • Scene transition from Space Battle to normal was not linking properly. I tried renaming, redoing both connecting scenes all together, still haven’t gotten them to link. Will try to look into it later.
  • Sometimes frames will “skip” and not save text leaving an “undefined” in the code.
  • Sometimes frames will duplicate when the code is saved.
  • Sometimes if you go back to check if a text was “saved”, and resave them it will create an “undefined” in the code.
  • Sometimes if you resave any text after editing it, it will replace every frame you hit save with an “undefined” in the code. (It is best to edit the actual TXT file rather than the frames again.)
  • Sometimes your “link to” TXT file name will be replaced with name.txt to just name, creating a broken link between scenes. (It is best to edit the actual TXT file rather than resaving again.)

Alot of these issues are very minor on the grand scale of things. I am having a blast creating my own scenes, with my “own” characters, atleast in name and personality. I really hope that this feedback will help you, because I want you to succeed. You’ve done a great job so far, so I really hope you will support Custom ARIA “Maker” with new stills and animations, or atleast implement the ability for us to have access to the stills and upload them into the Custom ARIA “Maker” ourselves somehow.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope you understand that I am just trying to give you feedback and information directly from someone who has been enjoying the Custom ARIA “Maker” and using it to the best of their ability.

I hope to upload my screenplay eventually to the other thread. Currently I have 20 connected scenes, with story boards, animations and a battle or two. It clocks in at about 15 minutes so far if you read the entire story without just clicking through. I’m really having fun with it!

Damn 20 scenes tied together is a bunch! I never figured out how to link the scenes together, so everything I cooked up is just a one-shot. I’ll definitely check yours out when it’s done though.

 

I see what you mean about the art but the relaxed images are already in, they’re the towel images toward the end of the possible options. You’re right on all the other images though and I want them in too. 

 

Course I agree on more animations too but I prefer the ‘vague’ zoomed in aspect that helps make scenes for characters that didn’t get scenes before. Although having the wholesale scenes and the zoomed in ones together would be the best but that sounds like more work than Vortex would want to put into something like this. (PS: A zoomed in version of that Lynn scene would be especially excellent.) 

 

One other possible bug I noticed is that the text box limit in the maker seems to be slightly different than when played back in game. If I type up enough to fill the box in the maker, it’ll often play in game with some of the bottom row cut off. So try to leave some spaces at the end.

It’s actually really simple to link scenes together. All you have to do is call another text file at the end of the primary scene. I’ll use your scenario from the other thread for example:

  • whynotlynn.txt [Primary Scene]
  • In the box where it says: “Will call a new custom text file at the end?” Check “Yes”.
  • In the box where it says: “If so, the name of that file will be called:” Type the name of your second Text file. For example, whynotlynn2.txt [Secondary Scene]

The end code will look like this:

  • “Y” means “Yes”, it will call the Secondary Scene text file.
  • Path will show the Secondary Scene file name.
  • Add whynotlynn2 to your custom.txt list: “whynotlynn,whynotlynn2”
  • Load whynotlynn and your scenes should automatically transition from one to the other after the first one is completed. If you have more than two, it will continue to link until they’re all finished like mine.
  • Always work “ahead of yourself”. Scene 1 calls Scene 2, Scene 2 calls Scene 3, and so forth.

I know the “Remi” towel scene isn’t in, but I guess I missed the relaxed scenes. Nevertheless there are alot of scenes missing. The “Amp” still of her being ‘used up’ could have really helped one of my scenes story flows.

Yeah, I agree it would be alot of work. I understand why they are zoomed out, but there are so many animations right now in the game that could be amazing at certain angles for ‘content creators’ like us. Even some breast close ups, or mouth / upper body expression close ups would be great. Something to give the scenes more variety. 

I haven’t come across that bug yet. I always use two lines and leave the third one blank. If what needs to be said requires more than two lines, I just use multiple frames. 

Another thing I noticed is there is no music or ‘action’ noises during the animations either.

I want to try to tinker around with the custom background as well, but from the comments I read on the actual Custom ARIA “Maker” upload post, it seems like there’s a few issues with it right now.

Really hoping we can atleast get obliged with some more “Remi”, “Amp” and other girls. It would definitely help our scenes.

 

@Vortex: I saw your post about making a tutorial for the Custom ARIA “Maker”, if you’d like I can do it after the holiday to maybe alleviate the work load? I’ll trade you for an “Amp” DP animation or some new stills to use in the “Maker”. : P

Kidding, of course, but I will totally do the tutorial if it would help you out. You could fill in the gaps with whatever I miss.

added a link at the top for a few resources for the upcoming custom BGs stuff. I’m trying to make it where I just need to update the editor but not the 2.6 ARIA files so people don’t have to re-download a new version of the game just to play stuff with custom BG.

the only problem with that is for the file that uses custom BG both talking and hentai scene need to be both custom.
they are either both custom or none are custom.

Downloaded the resource pack just now and browsed through it. There’s alot of great stuff in there, especially the different ship section backgrounds. That will definitely help alot in the future. The different character portraits are great too. Looking forward to the update.

added the editor with custom BG option to the OP
just replace the current editor with this one.

people will not need to DL an aria update, or even the updated editor to see the custom BG stuff. the functionality is already in the 2.6 custom scene player, just was removed from the editor.

as you can see since the BG is custom, I decided to add the characters directly to the background. That way I didn’t need to add any characters to the 4 slots at all. Adding character to the BG is optional.

with custom BG you can make essentially any scene. or even a story based application/game with completely different characters.

i tried to make a sex scene custom, but the BG only changes if one of the default sex animations are playing. so a custom sex scene would essentially need to be a talk scene with a sex custom BG.

Already downloaded it and figured it out within about 30 seconds and got it to work. SUPER easy and straight forward to use. This is going to help me leaps and bounds. It’s almost three in the morning here so ill have to wait till later today to start using it, but this is a great addition. Thank you so much.

I know ARIA is pretty much complete and on the back burner now, but I was just wondering if there was any plans to add more to the Custom Maker or not? Maybe give it a stand-alone release with more content for people to play around with? Ive been plugging away here and there still, but was waiting patiently to see where the end of the updates would be to know how far to proceed since I have had to go back and edit some things in Chapter 1 already. I didnt want to get so far involved that I would have to scrap certain segments due to updates. Just curious, I guess. Thanks.

Yes, as far as I know all the characters are represented and the ones that werent, or the ones I wanted to fabricate, I made from scratch in Photoshop.

As you know however, my main characters are ‘Remi’, ‘Amp’, ‘Sui-May’ and ‘Arielle’. Most of the stuff for ‘Amp’, ‘Sui-May’ and ‘Arielle’ is already in, or I can make use of other scenes through the angles provided. There is however, no animations for ‘Remi’ in either state — Futa (Remi) on Female (Phia) or Male (Jeo) on Futa (Remi). The angles obviously wouldnt have to be exclusively ‘Remi’ or show her face, ect, since I have more than one Futa in my HVN. Similar fashion to how the other ones were done really.

Anything ‘Remi’ related and remaining for ‘Amp’ will help, but obviously take your time. I know you’re extremely busy. I honestly dont even know if anyone uses the Maker as much as I do, at least no one is vocal about it.

Glad to hear youre not completely done with ARIA yet, you know I have spoken at length about how much I enjoy it. I keep tabs on Pinoytoon’s blog, but it has been inactive for along time now, a couple months. I figured he wasnt doing animations anymore.

Thanks. I have a look at it this weekend.  Pinoytoons is doing stuff with his RC game. maybe just not updating his blog for a while. I think is coder is very busy so the progress of the game is only as fast as that.

As for ARIA I wanted to make things like idle animations for the main menu selection girls and orders, etc add good tutorials, polish the UI, I think I will revert she ships back to only one style, they will not change in appearance. I want to make the Agent helps girls updated to their current body proportions. and focus on the side scrolling stuff a bit, kind of update that part. file the laser scrolling issues and make more and longer side scrolling parts, add bri and tt for that also. still collecting my thoughts on it.

Honestly, I guess it depends on where you see yourself taking the Maker. I come from the days of RPGMaker and Starcraft Map Editor where ‘switches’ and ‘triggers’ while creating convoluted and complex scenarios were the norm. Obviously, this is more for a leisure project rather than something grand scale.

I absolutely planned on using it in my HVN’s, but there is some limitations. In the main game, if you get defeated it triggers the defeated sex scene, for certain girls, but in the Maker version — regardless if you win or lose it still progresses. I think with the mechanics we have now, there are some interesting ways to proceed and combine things together. For example:

Space Battle -> Condition Met: Victory -> Story Progresses

Space Battle -> Condition Met: Defeat -> Story Pauses; Option 1 -> Capture and “Punish” Crew [Sex scenes created by user.]

                                                                          Option 2 -> Rescue Crew [Non-aggressive option.]

                                                                          Option 3-X; Et Cetera

If the “Options” menu was even more advanced, or gave more options, it would offer even more complex scenarios and choices. Adding in ‘trigger’ or ‘switch’ options like RPGMaker / SC Map Editor you could do something such as:

Condition Met: Lose Half Nodes -> Inter-Battle Scene [Such as a boarding of another crew vessel.] -> Finish Battle -> Option (1 through X)

An other idea would be having morale choices associated with your actions. If you continuously pick a “Negative” or aggressive choice path, “Positive” choice paths become unselectable because the crew, the girls, et cetera have made up their minds that you’re an ass. This would offer multiple playthroughs, and multiple choice paths in the end, but  I dont know how you would go about something like that though… Im not good with algorithms and math, I am more of an idea and writer/story type of person.

I had used the Space Battles in my HVN, but I cut that part out due to limitations. Bri (“Mia”) loses her first battle, but it’s rigged, and in consequence she begins her “training” with Remi (“Belle”) in the showers. She’s made to think it’s a dream later on.

I did a little snooping around on Pinoytoons, he has been active, just not on his blog. He had a few really great updates on Hentai Foundry I didnt know about. A nice Android 18 mini loop, one of the Bleach girls, a really great Morrigan mini-animation. The BJ / swallowing and when she’s ontop is nice.

Idle animations sounds like a good idea to bring some life into the game. I noticed Pinoytoons is adding alot of “idle breathing” and “idle facial expressions” to his newer animations. In some of the sex animations you can also see faster breathing, flushed faces, or breath in some cases.

I think unique idle animations could give some personality to the girls. Something even as simple as Tiffany pushing her glasses up, Arielle pushing her hair behind her ear, Phia cocking her hips and winking. You can only get so much of their personalities based on text alone.

 

All in all, sounds great to me. Really looking forward to what you come up with in the end. As always, if you need me to help you with anything or think of ideas — anything — just let me know. Always willing to help.

I took out the space battle stuff already like right after I posted that to keep it light XD
I’ll figure out how to have it as a addon later. and possibly other minigames can be plugged in later also.
I’d need something like another branch thing for if you win or lose the minigame I guess. And I say minigame loosely it could be anything external that you can pass or fail on.

but as far where I see myself taking it, I wanted to keep this as simple as possible. it’s not really designed to make something super complex as you mentioned with SC map editors and stuff. As you might recall I didn’t even have the custom BG in there originally.

good idea for idle stuff. those might be good for if you view the idle animation for too long.

Yeah, I remember the original release was extremely bare bones. It has come along way since then. It makes me wonder a bit if anyone else has ideas for it and theyre just not vocal about it. It’s hard to gauge how many people actually use it unless you release it as a standalone and track how many times it has been downloaded. Maybe then you can gauge people’s interest in it and determine whether or not it is worth pursuing more substantial updates to it?

I obviously use it a lot, and want more updates to come when they can, but if there’s remotely no interest in it I wouldnt want you to update it solely based on my needs alone. That’s not necessarily fair to you or anyone else, and I would feel bad, as much as I would like more Remi and Amp all around.

When I think of idle animations, I think of something super simple like Sonic tapping his shoes in the Genesis games or inspecting chest rigs and weapons in Call of Duty. Something that’s extremely short, but breathes life into the characters. 

Im having a hard time visualizing where you would put these. Im guessing in the menu on the left when you select a character’s portrait? Or in the “Free” menu where theyre in their towels? Be funny if you could pull at their towel and they each had a different short animation in response to that.

yeah it would be on that left portrait. what i has in mind was a you “just selected this character” animations, followed by a subtle looping breathing animation animation. with a animation that plays periodically at random times. like you mention TT glasses would slide down and she push them back up.

I had plans to make a stand alone game creator anyways but yeah we can gauge it.

will add later where you can play your own included mp3 file(s)
then load external swf that can return a pass/fail variable for branch.

first .txt needs to be names “start.txt”
title screen needs to be named “title.jpg”
can use any names for files beyond that point.

to distribute remove both “aria_custom_editor.swf” and “aria_custom_editor.exe” files from the custom folder.

“ARIA_editplayer” in main folder can be renamed to the title of your game, but will no longer work with the html page. you would have to edit the text in that file also to rename all instances of “ARIA_editplayer” to the renamed title of your game.

I think you’re referring to the Jeo-Remi-Phia scene from when you pick the “Peek” option in the Agents menu?
