This seems legit but there are some things that need clarification before I would consider pledging.

First is the expected playtime. I’ve played VN that go for dozens of hours but the vast majority of them can be completed in under an hour. I think $15-$25 is pretty reasonable for a few hours of gameplay, but they are accepting pledges of up to $500! That’s pretty steep for something that I could potentially beat in an evening and forget about. Conversely if the game is say 40+ hours I wouldn’t have a problem pledging $75, though the $500 pledge still seems steep.

Secondly, I’d need clarification on what they mean by episodic releases. They flat out admit that they will probably need to crowdfund additional episodes, but what would that mean for original backers of the first episode? Would I have to pledge again to get the next part or would people be grandfathered in for future episodes? Also how much would the goal be for future episodes? Depending on the quality of the first it could be significantly harder to raise another $45k. Some of the programming and art content could potentially be reused so you would think they would require less for a goal amount but by how much? $10k for additional episodes would be pretty easy to reach but $45k per episode gets less likely with each installment unless the game really takes off. The episodes also need to be explained better. Would each episode be a self contained story or would I have to pledge again for every episode to get the complete story.

The last thing that needs clarification is development time, and this is something that is usually sorely lacking in project descriptions in this industry. I understand that delays happen and maybe things need to be added/tweaked to perfect the game, but what is the initial timeframe? I pledged to Roundscape Adorevia with the reasonable expectation that it would be completed in about a year, but it’s 3 years later and the game isn’t finished despite releasing a 1.0 version (you’d think that would mean a complete game but you’d be wrong). Additionally most, if not all, of the reached stretch goals aren’t even started yet despite a ludicrously successful campaign and additional monthly funding on Patreon. I could also use Breeding Season as an example of poorly defined development time, but there were manly poorly defined things by that game’s management.

From a professional perspective I have a hard time believing a project of this size can be managed in just $45,000. I didn’t read too awful far into it since it’s almost three in the morning here, but with a team of that size and so little funding, they’re probably doing it part time on top of having a “real” part time or full time job which leads to the project not being full time which can lead to a difference of opinions, split decisions, split party votes which is never a good sign. In my opinion, if you’re going to do a venture of this nature it has to be full time, and for $45,000 you cant support almost 10 people full time for any length of time.

This leads to my second point, either they are purposely under funding themselves to try to bank on Stretch Goals, or they dont have someone who is advising them in the right direction for something of this nature. Both of which are alarming and throw up red flags for me.

Apart from that, the artwork is beautiful. It almost reminds me of a Tony Taka (T2) style which works very well with games. I like that they’re open about the stretch goals and the possibility of having interactive and animated sex scenes. I think if they could pull off that art style in an animated environment, they would have something special. Stills leaves alot to be desired, for both the viewer and the designer.

I think they should have pushed for animated before they announced. Sort of like, had a pow-wow and said we’re going to do animated or we’re not going to do it at all. Set the bar higher than what you think you should, that way you have something to shoot for.
