Long time no see, guys. Been a rough couple months on my end. Moved three times, been back an forth overseas half a dozen times. Life comes at you fast, sometimes.

Hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to check in and say I didn't drop off the face of the earth, I have just been dealing with a lot of stress and work related things.

I noticed ARIA v2.8 finally got the greenlight and released. Pretty happy to see that. The quality of life updates to the UI and the sound effects are great. I also saw that support for the custom maker has been dropped, though. (I guess I may be partially to blame for that since I was one of the only people who actually used it? My bad..)

I still plan on messing around with v2.7's custom maker in what little spare time I have. It's fun to mess around with when you learn all the functions.

I guess I have to apologize though, that I never finished the tutorial for it like I said I would. I just didn't have time with everything that was going on. At one point I had flown almost 45,000 miles in the span of a week between seven different countries. My mind has been like scrambled eggs the last couple months, so I had decided it was best to take a break. You know it's bad when you open your wallet and there's five different currencies in it. Hope everyone understands my predicament, though I know it's no excuse.

I hope to be a little more active here again than I have been in recent months. It's been fun coming up with ideas for a potential ARIA 2 and seeing TTROP grow as an artist as well as the evolution of ARIA from sub v1.0 to now closing in on v3.0, though it seems v2.8 is final.

Not going to lie, when TTROP first started I was a little uneasy with the thought of the character likenesses that were already, in my mind, established being changed, but he has certainly put the time and effort in to these projects and it shows. I hope he continues to improve and we get to see what he can really do when ARIA 2 gets greenlit.

As a side note @Vortex: Since support had been dropped for the custom maker for v2.8, is there any way I can use the custom maker with v2.8 or is that something you would have to enable? Speaking primarily like something as easy as a file swap from v2.7 to v2.8 inside the custom maker directory, or is it more complicated than that? It would be nice to have the sound effects and updated UI in custom projects if it were as easy as swapping the clients out with one another. As always, thank you for your time.

Sorry to hear so much has been going on for you and I hope things improve soon. I don't know all the details but there are already plans for more ARIA projects. Vortex has posted a couple times on one in particular,


I liked your AoD project but don't beat yourself up about taking time off, life happens sometimes and you can't do everything at once. Hope to hear from you again soon TK.

welcome back, yeah sorry to hear about your issues. and sorry for the delayed reply.

to address the questions:

I don't think is a need to finish the tutorial tbh. none uses it. But i am fine with that because there are way better tools for making VN type games that don't require any coding. And i really don't have any time to keep updating the editor with features.

The custom editor, even as part of ARIA, is a totally different set of files that doesn't share animations, sound, or UI elements with the main ARIA game. So since no one used it I took it out to avoid any confusion when players entered the settings screen. Plus there is already a standalone version.

as for the art yeah as long as the characters generally have thing that make them identifiable as a particular character then I am usually fine with the artists interpretation of them.

I'd argue to pick up some simple like tryanobuilder for the game. It is pretty easy to use. Wilsonthegreen also made a few games on there with little to no input from me. I also provided the base assets like character art and backgrounds for the most part.

Yeah, I has remembered last time we talked you mentioned something about Tyranobuilder and some other VNMaker similar to it. I had picked up one or the other from either directly from their site or from a Steam sale, I cant remember which. Problem was I hadnt even had time to sit down and open it yet to play around with it. Hopefully things slow down and I will be able to start working on something different or continue my work as is.
