I ask because I was planning to make some unity3D stuff for it but I’m not sure there will be a big market for it right out the gate because it is $600 usd and needs high end PC.
https://shop.oculus.com/en-us/cart/
Apparently the guys behind it estimate that a PC with the recommended specs to use an Occulus Rift will be in the $900 price range so the actual cost for the complete rig is somewhere in the $1500 range. I wasn’t sure I was going to get one when the price was estimated at $350 but there’s no way I’m shelling out $1500 for the first generation of any hardware and I’d encourage people in my personal life to think twice also.
As for the Unity stuff, idk. If you’re making it specifically for Occulus users then I’m not sure how large your base will be, but the Umichan 3D WIP you have on this site seemed like it could have been fun so I really don’t know
Yeah I might try to make something small if I get some time and see how it does. I don’t plan on getting it just quite yet, if at all.
IT’s just to expansive for anyone to buy. I guess wait until the price goes down to $150. I’m sure other companies will make there own VR. If you get one well you be the only ones with a VR. But you will be able to test it your self. Have it on the site for those who do have it. Well it is to early to make this into a market.
Would I get one? Sure motion controller with that VR is the perfect combo in trying to be in a virtual world. We have not heard of what Sony, Microsoft and Samsung VR price at all yet.

Francis gives you his opinion! LOL
It’s kind of a dilemma with being first on the scene advantage versus there not not being much a scene to be the first to anyway heh
Never been much of a PC guy, this news only cements that further for me.
Don’t got that dough, or compy skills to set it up.
From what I have seen, most PC stuff fairly cheap or reasonable if you buy online and assemble stuff yourself. That is kind of why it is a big deal about the high price. Plus adding on the price of the graphics card required if you don’t already have one that works.
I’ve heard tales of things of that nature but that’s the other half of my problem. I got zero compy skills, no installation, coding, heck I’m surprised I figured out Microsoft office.
One of the things that originally got me into your stuff is how easy it is to run. The headaches I get trying to run stuff aren’t great, so finding something that can be plugged into a browser or opened up raw is really attractive by comparison.
Though stuff that plays on oculus would probably be on steam or the ilk which make installation/running not so terrible for guys like me.
Yeah PC aptitude is something that can easily be taken for granted. Yeah with my games you don’t need to install them and such heh. just unzip and run or drag to browser window.
VR is still too much of a gimmick and the price will probably kill most of the hype for alot of people. As far as I know its only indies who are actually developing for VR, if theres no AAA games with VR planned to keep the hype going, VR won’t ever take off like people expect it to.
We’ll see how it plays out
im dying over the maiko video rofl
heh yeah I just wanted to make a little goofy video after hearing that song
I’d need to be sure it didn’t make me sick. And I’d need cash to blow.
Yeah that would be bad to spend money on it only to find out you can’t really use it.
Broo,
Oculus Rift is a fun toy, but at that price range, I doubt I’d get it anytime soon.
Had a chance to play with the DK1/2 kit when I was in Japan, I went on a virtual roller coaster really
was surprised with how efficiently it immersed you in the world. Actually felt like I was on a roller coaster (without the physical feeling, really felt it mentally though).
That was until the coaster went underneath a giant Miku and you could look up to see her panties haha
In the end for an Aussie to get the kit. It would be closer to $900 after the exchange rate. For that price,
I would look at upgrading my Graphics Card as it would have more benefits in the long run.
As for you, I think it would be a niche market that will not have much of an audience at the start,
however capitalizing on learning the software and hardware may end up giving you an edge when virtual reality goes mainstream (the pioneer of virtual anime girls heh). I’d say if you have the time go for it.
Thanks, yeah unfortunately time is not something I have a lot of at the moment heh.
wait a few years price will drop with better quality version
heh hopefully it won’t take years to see how it might play out
hahaha this is funny, I looked the price in my country and the price says, “your left eye and right eye” … #@$%@#$ 4000 on my country.
You know it is bad when the price is displayed as body parts heh
…na moeda atual do Brasil, isso custa no mínimo 2000 reais, fora imposto que deve fazer isso custar 4000 e mais taxa de entrega do correio que eleva ele para 4400 ou 5000 da moeda atual….
Nunca vou comprar =D
It is already a high price, but the cost for tax and shipping is a nail in the coffin lol.
