I’ve been thinking about having the rookie make appearance in other games, but that means making his face. Because I don’t want to make some guy always wearing a mask/goggles and gloves. I made a poll to get people’s thoughts on this. as usual written comment explaining your position has more weight to me.

I’ve played first person games where the guy has a appearance and games where the guy is anonymous the entire game. usually if he has a defined face you only see it at the start of the game and in promotional art. Both ways work. until you might need to have the character appear in other places. then you need to get creative heh.
The Rookie is the player character in a small VN I made titled the Rookie.

I think is important to know if the character will make a “cameo” in other entries, in which case a unique face would be cool. Now if this rookie will only be featured here I think the best way is to make it generic if show him at all.

The Lannisters send them.
we can send you a drawing of how we want him, you select one of them and then draw in your style
A unique appearance is a good idea. If he the Rookie has it, then he definitely should show up in your other games where we could see him in a third-person view.
I’ve made a fast sketch of the guy’s face, just a variant for suggestion:
If you’re going to give him his own appearance I think he should at least be somewhat generic. Like most harem anime protagonists. That way he’d still be recognizable but not so distinct it would clash with the ‘put yourself in the world’ thing of Rookie.
I think it depends on whether you want the rookie to appear in other entries as just a cameo or you want him to be a relevant character to other stories. for instance, if you just want to make him an optional boss battle in Aria then you might as well make him generic (with a unique face but nothing too outstanding), on the other hand if he is supposed to play a role in the plot of other games might aswell make him very unique. If you are intimidated by his appearance nullifying the self-insert potential, then there are a few trick. for instance light brown hair and dark eyes makes him universally relatable to almost anyone, visually being clearly fit but not buffed nor chiseled also helps on that matter.
It also depends on what were your plans for the rookie (character), did you want him to be an entirely new character or was your intention to make him an already established character from other game.
I am personally a sucker for plot twists, so my opinion is this. if he is an entirely new character, flesh him out in his own game but make him mysterious on other games, for instance if he is appearing as just a cameo make him wear a helmet but make such helmet unique and stylish. if otherwise you were planing to build the rookie around an established character from another game then flesh him out in that game and make him mysterious inside the rookie (game) constantly hinting at his identity and only revealing his character design at the very end.
Just my thoughts, keep up the good work bro. I am looking forward to your next releases
