Feel free to check out this patreon post in the link below and vote for which playable character you prefer for the next female pov game I’ve been talking about on here recently.
I personally don’t like the idea of using a custom girl. In games there are only two reasons I like custom characters: I can self insert or there is heavy visual customization which neither would be filled in this game if it was a custom female. In the case that niether are filled I prefer having a an established character. Which also means you could go the route of Mass Effect or GTA, having a fixed appearance but letting the players change it to thier liking if they feel like it. But this still has a problem that I will point out in Yuki’s.
Yuki was my choice when you first said it might between r.girl and Yuki because as stated before in this case I rather have an established character. The thing is that whether you choose it or not this character will be the face of one of your big games, and atm she isn’t giving off the vibe of one it feels more like a noname like the rookie. It’s not giving off the vibe of Carl. It sounds like Yuki would be better for a Mira like game atm. As of now she has to fill the shoes of Maiko. I’m not saying that she can’t work but I feel you haven’t sold her character well. If it was a character like Luma, Riley, or even Pattie I feel it would have more weight. Would the character have big relevance after this game? If not would their story be wrapped up nicely that they could be moved back into a side character and not need more fleshing?
Maiko I’m completely biased for as she holds a place in my heart, due to this, more of her is always welcomed. She doesn’t have the problems I felt the others have; being established and being a face of a game, and I personally would like to spend more time with the character. I don’t feel like her story was wrapped up and not ready to give the spotlight to a new character. Since it seems like Maiko is winning. Here are possible solutions:
– Add customization to Maiko to fill what the R.Girl would bring. Hair change, make up, etc. Iirc you said that Holly made Jeni wear makeup and you said she lives with Holly? Possibly make her talk to Holly for customization so you don’t need to make salon unless you had that planned.
– Add more scenes like the beginning of UMCH with Annie. Iirc you said one of the reasons you didn’t want it to be Maiko playable was to learn more about her from an outside source. This could still give that option.
This is just my opinion and I could be off mark on what you were visualizing for each being the possible main role.
Thanks for the feedback. You mentioned I haven’t sold Yuki, but I wouldn’t be able to to unless she is the main protagonist in a game so that we can properly compare playing as her vs Maiko. People tend to get bit worried even when I do anything a bit different or having unknown results. So anytime I want to, I have to go against popular opinion.
Yes UMCH certainly ends of a cliff hanger. and interesting idea about using Holly or Jeni’s makeup. I plan to have at least some color options with the nails and phone.
Maiko is my vote. A custom Character would be great for the multiplayer aspects but when your trying to write a story driven game it has been proven that set character is far more interesting.
That does bring up a cool thought though. Customizable avatar creation for patrons? Ehhh maybe not that make take forever to create.
UMCC had a optional custom character section in the main hallway so I might do something similar here. even in UMCH the r.girl was originally intended to have a few more customization options for like current UMCS or UMCT
As much as I like Maiko, I’m partially inclined to have her step aside for this installment. Mostly because of the aspect where the player does missions. I kinda like Maiko’s image of being essentially an everygirl who’s mostly only involved in this crap due to circumstance. I think having her go on missions may interfere with that somewhat. That said tho, I very much do still want to play as her again. Do you suppose that even if Maiko isn’t the main character, it’ll still be possible to have her be playable in a deuteragonist type role, where she’ll still have a lot to do? Because if so, I think I can accept Yuki as taking the spotlight for a spell.
I voted for Maiko and Yuki, but prefer Maiko.

I must agree with Oecus and Jude. Maiko all the way, man. Though that may change once i know Yukino a bit more?
I’d imagine it would, but I’ll make it work either way.

well that was kind of the original idea, but Maiko can be main also.
